  • Not a Kitchen Nightmare

During off time this week I decided to do some food-stylist type activity in my kitchen.  Eating right foods is difficult as it is when something quick and ready to eat is less satisfying.  The way food looks on a plate also helps in deciding what to eat.

Pay close attention to the television and any of the +Food Network programs.  Usually when the chefs are preparing something to eat in their kitchens, all of the utensils and foods are out on the countertop for quick and easy preparation.

Food Style works hand in hand with an easy to navigate cooking and prep area.  Does the inside of you're refrigerator look like something only used to store take out leftovers?  Can you visualize what items you've got on hand in your pantry cabinets without looking?  If you want to prepare a meal using what is in your pantry, do you first need to clear a sink full of dishes?  Do you unload and put away dishes from the dish washer shortly after they've been washed or wait until the next load needs to go in?
These are just a few thoughts.  For me, the joy of cooking and preparing meals gets lost when I try to begin from a messy prep station.  Try to think 2 or 3 meals in advance when cooking meals at home.  Remember not every time you want to make a meal going to the grocery store might not be an option.

Right now decide- is there anything in your freezer that could be defrosted?  What seasoning will be used to prepare fish, beef or poultry?  Do you find yourself more likely to make heavy hourdurvs for breakfast lunch and dinner?  What does your idea practical meal look like?

Eat what you feel comfortable preparing.  Imagine every meal you make being featured on television.
Marinade something ahead of time then be marveled.  The most amazing meal Ive had in weeks came from my kitchen pantry at home.

    At-home 'Luncheon'

In attempts to continue with my new years resolution I've considered the easiest and most inexpensive way to make the types of food I eat more available.
I don't like going to the grocery store it seems like until the cabinets and freezer are completely empty (bad habit) or I'm out of milk bread cheese or coffee

My idea of a meal isn't always the same as anyone else in the house. For instance Ill take a box of jiffy cornbread batter, add pesto seasoning, Parmesan cheese, frozen spinach, bake then wonder why I haven't thought of that combination before, and obsessively investigate what else I can create.

Banana bread is always a win. Using any low cal cake-like batter I like to add oatmeal flakes, dried fruit and seeds.

Will I ever be able to enjoy regular food again? Food that doesn't seem as if it should served at a luncheon or similar special occasion? Suppose with this newly found appreciation for smaller more flavorful food choices, I should pay attention to the beverage choices as well. Everyone knows yet I'm still learning how to pair wine and spirits with a dish to make a more complete and satisfying meal.

Navytimes ran a article about the closing of some base theaters.  Due to extensive budget reviews several military base theaters will be discontinued.  The reason I gathered from reading is a matter of cost relating to the expense of upgrading some outdated facilities.  On base theaters are competing with a demand for Imax ready cinemas that have become popular off base.  Fortunately the Navy decided to compensate by upgrading.

    Summer Grillin'

Country Music, BBQ grills, baseball and a sense of nostalgia. All of the tell tale signs that summer is right around the corner. With the season fast approaching, its time to break out all of those fun and colorful outfits! Anything to keep cool. Breezy skirts and complicated strappy shoes. The lure of crowded outdoor events should be calling you by name....
Beach towels, sand box, bam book club, television to be missed...trying not to be myself by wanting everything all at once. For example-i want to go to the oceanfront but feel the need to pack my gadgets and a book. Ellen says we overpack for vacations...its true.

This memorial day weekend, one hotspot to overpopulate will include the Jazz Festival at downtown Jacksonville.

Less than three weeks from now, Jacksonville Beach will be the place to be. The entire weekend will be reason to celebrate. Former resident, now professional surfer, Katrina Petroni will be putting Jacksonville back on the map. Anticipation is killing me, almost impossible to formulate any sense of this excitement with words!
What are your favorite foods to throw on the grill?
My favorite foods to throw on the grill are smashed boneless chops seasoned with a little salt and pepper.  Bacon, cheesy scrambled eggs, grilled cheese, regular and shredded potato pancakes (not all at once, of course) also are some of my favorite things to throw on the grill.

How you feel ordering what you didn't want

Pulling a semi home made dish for lunch today? All you'll need is the following ingredients from the frozen section of your local grocer: Tyson chicken tenders, Italian style stir fry veggies, and a box of Penni pasta.   For me, the simplest way to prepare this meal is using a slow cooker, adding the frozen veggies, a cup of liquid, a tablespoon or so of olive oil, and the Penni.  Cook on hi for about an hour, stir occasionally to keep the pasta from sticking.   Prepare the nuggets in the oven according to the directions on the package.  Sauce is optional.  Spaghetti sauce, Alfredo, or pesto work well. One variation to this dish is to serve with meatballs instead of chicken nuggets.

Always find ways to enjoy a hearty meal.  The afternoon this dish was being prepared As I was muddling around, trying to find a way out the door for an afternoon jog.  Way too many steps were involved.  I decided to list the steps as way to further fusterate my efforts.
    Going for a run:

    Have a French toast breakfast
    Check online for activity
Tune in to local sports talk radio
Leash one of the dogs, try muzzle training for added control
Use fingerless gloves to handle leash for hand protection
    Unlock treadmill from upright position
Find clean socks and tennis shoes in case you haven't already got them on
A girdle and support bra for bounce reduction
Since it will be dark before any of these steps are repetitively followed and by the grace of dusk you actually build enough courage to look awkward and go for this run, don't forget to bring along a flashlight.  Wear reflective clothing. Keep your four legged companion close.  Keep an eye out for broken glass or debris on city sidewalks to prevent injury to their paws.

In response to the overwhelming demand for a new drink from this fountain, here goes.  This only suits an individual that has an appreciation for sketchy people who always seem to know something about everything.  Its called an invisible man.  You'll need a highball glass filled with ice, ginger ale, two dashes of orange juice, .5oz triple sec, .5oz brandy, 2oz of gin.  Pour the gin, brandy, triple sec and orange juice into the highball glass then fill with ginger ale.  Stir and enjoy your invisible man.  Answer a couple questions while you're at it.  If public transportation were available in your neighborhood, would you use it?  Do you believe in fate?  What is more important, being kind or showing kindness?  From your semantic perspective, what describes the concept of wedlock to a congregation best?  How is a broken entrepreneurial spirit repaired?
